Just like Windows Vista, latest operating system Windows 7 also uses “folder” templating mechanism to display different column fields in parts. It also remembers your preference for column fields located inside folder but Windows Vista does not allow this. If you don’t know how to add or remove columns in Windows Explorer then this tutorial will help you out to do so.

How to hide or remove column fields in explorer window

  • To hide from “Sort by” menu, make a right click on header of sort column.
  • Uncheck field name from popup context menu that opens.
  • To remove it from details view, click on “More” located inside Sort by submenu.
  • Dialog box will display with column header that are available. Uncheck the column that you want to hide and then click on “OK” button to get new changes.

How to Show columns in Windows explorer

  • Make a right click on any column header that is available currently in details view and then click on “More” from opened context menu.
  • Here you will see all column fields that are available currently. Uncheck means the field is not visible in file details view. To show it, simply check the box and click “OK”. All done!
